What's your educational background?
I graduated with my degree in Psychology from Bridgewater State University in 2019.
What were you doing before starting at the REC?
After graduating I was serving fajitas at Chili’s, saving up for a backpacking trip in Colombia which I embarked on at the end of last year! This past summer I was lucky enough to intern at Community Harvest Project in Grafton on the farm team, which is where I really started to fall in love with locally grown food.
What sparked your interest in working with the REC? I’m really passionate about social justice, especially in the realm of environmental activism, and I see food justice as a nexus for so many sustainable solutions. The REC brings people together to take pride in their communities, celebrate locally grown food, and provides invaluable experiences for youth development (among so many other impacts!)- I’m really excited to share these stories with the community at large.
What do you spend time doing outside of work?
I’m usually either spending time with my two nephews, Ben and Nate, or doing a 30 day Yoga with Adriene challenge. Taking pictures of all the beautiful produce at the markets has inspired a passion for cooking as well!
If you were a vegetable, which one would you be? Hmmm…a beet. I like the idea of a root veggie that’s bursting with color- grounded, yet fun & funky. :)
Welcome, Gwen! We're excited to have you on the REC team!
